At Last!

Yes, it's here at last. The great long lost Hawkwind classic, Warrior On The Edge Of Time gets a right proper release on CD. Plus the box set gives you a DVD of high res and surround versions. I haven't heard it yet as it only arrived this morning, but with Steven Wilson's involvement in the mixing it should be good. I am just pleased to see all the wrangling sorted which has stopped the master tapes being released. I can sleep safely now.

Current Listening

Lots to listen to.

UK - Reunion, Live in Tokyo
Spock's Beard - Brief Nocturnes and Dreamless Sleep
King Crimson - USA (HQCD)
Nosound - Afterthoughts
The Armoury Show - Waiting for the Floods (Cherry Red Reissue)
Rhys Marsh and the Autumn Ghost - Trio
Herd of Instinct - Conjure
Dead Can Dance - In Concert

The big surprise was how good The Armoury Show reissue is. I haven't heard this album in about 30 years. I only had it on cassette and don't remember it being on CD. On paper the combination of ex Skids and Magazine members should have been spectacular but my recollection was of something overblown and lacking cohesion. This reissue proves me wrong. True, the music is of the time when bands like Simple Minds and U2 were getting seriously earnest and bloated, but with the wonderful Richard Jobson out front The Armoury Show were rousing, anthemic but with heartfelt conviction. Tracks like "Castles in Spain" and "The Glory of Love" are gloriously huge sounding. Guitarist John McGeoch is spectacular as always and is sadly missed. This 2CD compilation of the album with lots of extra stuff is a wonderful collection of a band who should have been big. The music was probably too good for the masses.
